Weirton native Mark Murray will be autographing his newly released book at a local book store later this month.
Murray, a Weir High School graduate currently living in Stonewood, stated his first publication — titled "Warders of the Gate" — is a fantasy novel with some science fiction influence. He will be holding a book signing April 19 from 1-3 p.m. at Waldenbooks in the Fort Steuben Mall, Steubenville, Ohio. At 42 years old, Murray noted he has always wanted to write a book.
"It's a great feeling to have this dream come true," he said.
According to Murray, the writing process took many years. He stated he wrote and edited off and on during that time in order to put his story together. Murray reported he submitted his manuscript to multiple publishing houses before it was accepted by Arctic Wolf Publishing.
"The rejection can be hard, but it doesn't always reflect the quality of your work," he said. "Sometimes publishers are only looking for specific types of books. You just got to keep trying."
Murray stated the most valuable information he could give aspiring writers is to keep writing.
"It takes a lot of time, but it's ultimately worth it," he said.
In addition to his current book, Murray stated he has a second work in progress which he intends to be his first step into the mystery genre. "Warders of the Gate" is available now in local bookstores and online. Murray stated he's received good feedback so far and looks forward to hearing from more of his readers.
